pause

Taking a pause in the middle of sharing Jubilee Ruth's story to share the [much less consequential] fruit of my Saturday.

BEFORE:

I know, it's cute, but it fits her awkwardly and besides, she has a much cuter spring coat already. What she really needs...

AFTER:

...is a scarf!

Wish you couldn't see quite how homemade it looks (i.e. not-quite-straight edges). oh well. I'm learning!

Also not pleased with this photo. The stripes look kinda bad. In reality they're dark purple un-waled corduroy. Very cute.

This was surprisingly complicated to make. The coat was small to begin with, and there were seams all over the place, so it was really difficult to get pieces of fleece big enough or long enough to get anywhere. That's why I had to add the stripes and put them at an angle. But, all in all, I'm happy with it. I *love* the little pockets at the ends. I also like how the ends of the scarf are open, because they were actually the ends of the sleeves. I decided it would be cuter to leave them that way (and probably better to spare my machine having to sew through four layers of fleece). A scarf will probably get used a lot more here in wintry Chicago than the lightweight little coat would have!

Unfortunately, little miss is not excited about the scarf yet. Maybe the next time we go out to play in the snow. Until then, this is the best modeling picture I was able to get:

  3. In my efforts to pause and to choose life, I went contra dancing last night and today I'm off in search of x-c ski boots.
I was so surprised by your wham-bam entries in the last few days that I keep checking back for part 2. Looking forward to your next installment.
